Christian Verhoeven on Trek in Senegal

Our member and friend Christian Verhoeven joined a school building trek, Oct.2024, with buildOn in Senegal. Here is his feedback:

“Education is probably the most powerful weapon to fight against poverty and it is best suited to provide fertile grounds for growing health, freedom, culture, society, and wealth. Sharing some impressions from a school building project we just returned from in Senegal. The project was funded through fund raising and a donation to BuildOn stemming from volunteers and GEV Volunteers.
In addition, some of the volunteers formed a trek team to support the BuildOn team in excavating the ground, brick making, concreting and steel rebar making on the work site in Senegal. Beside the additional manpower the trek team also supported the cultural exchange with the Senegalese Community.
This has been a wonderful experience with immediate and sustainable impact helping to break the vicious circle of illiteracy and poverty.”
